Cryptobranchus is a genus of salamanders, members of the family Cryptobranchidae, characterized by their oversized eyes and webbed feet, and usually possessing adaptations for living in fast-moving waters such as broad heads and flattened tails to swim effectively. They are commonly known as Asian giant salamanders or Japanese giant salamanders. The largest species, Cryptobranchus athacana, can grow to a length of over 130 cm (50 inches).
