A photoplethysmogram (PPG) is a graphic record of the variation in volume and, consequently, the light absorption or transmission of a body part, usually a finger, earlobe, or toe, caused by the expansion and contraction of surface blood vessels during the cardiac cycle. It is commonly used in medical applications to monitor blood flow or pulse rate.
